Eru and Suminagashi
Originally, the practice of Suminagashi involved floating ink on the surface of water and then carefully transferring the delicate patterns onto paper or fabric. Various types of inks or sumi ink, traditionally used in Japanese calligraphy, are dropped onto the water’s surface in concentric circles or other desired patterns.
Using an adapted version of this technique, Eru creates Suminagashi designs with paint on wood and canvas panels. Each is an entirely unique, mesmerizing design that is impossible to replicate precisely.
